Ilir Meta has rejected the theses that Edi Rama's overthrow could come through discord or "moral conditions" imposed on the opposition, emphasizing that the main problem remains the electoral and institutional system, which, according to him, has given Rama absolute control over power.
In a lengthy reaction on Facebook, Meta accuses the prime minister of having for years led not only the government, but also the opposition through political bargaining, deliberate boycott and distortion of reforms, while calling for a real opposition unity around changing the unconstitutional system and restoring citizens' free vote.
Ilir Meta's post
For almost 10 years, Edi Rama led with "complete success" the opposition, in addition to the Government, Parliament and every other institution, except the Presidency, until July 24, 2022.
This is a "merit" and cannot be denied.
But this, more than his "merit" for corrupting the opposition leadership, has been the weakness and disloyalty of those who have accepted to be sold out for personal interests, but also for their troubles with justice.
Today, there is a right debate about the Territorial Reform and the importance of the opposition's participation in it, even though Edi Rama has 83 + 3 votes to approve it in the end, according to his appetite for the unlimited concentration of power in his hands.
Unfortunately, Edi Rama approved the variant he wanted even when he only had 65 votes out of the 84 he needed, 11 years ago.
This happened with the full awareness of the DP leadership at the time, which not only boycotted the Reform Commission, but above all never provided an alternative of its own, which was requested at that time by up to 100 or 110 local units.
All those who were at the National Conference of the Democratic Party at that time, dedicated only to local government, I believe remember the participation there of the late Mr. Bashkim Fino, but also of Mr. Petrit Vasili, who on behalf of the majority (SP-LSI) asked the DP to present a variant of its own to be approved by consensus.
The participation of Mr. Fino and Mr. Vasili was only possible thanks to my insistence that this reform be carried out only with the consensus of the DP and the opposition.
But a platform was never presented by the DP (although, to my knowledge, one was prepared by its experts).
This happened because the prominent "mathematician" who led the DP had received a non-public offer from Edi Rama: it would have been better for him to boycott until the end and present the boycott as an alibi, but also because in some municipalities where LSI representatives would run on behalf of the SP-LSI coalition, the SP would secretly work for the "mathematician's" candidates.
And so it happened.
"Mathematician" never presented an alternative project to the Parliamentary Committee and, as a reward, received "underground" support from the SP structures in Lezha, Pogradec, etc., which at that time was described as the "Roskovec bazaar".
Although I am not optimistic that the opposition's participation in this Commission will be influential in the final decision of the majority (83 + 3), again, out of respect for the citizens who are currently suffering the destruction of public services by local government, I believe that the opposition has a duty to present its alternative to Albanian citizens, but also to the Parliamentary Commission.
The great "mathematician", after taking Lezha and Pogradec in 2015, in 2019 made an unprecedented "chess player" move and handed over all the municipalities to "Rilindja" with the "strategic" goal that, by leaving all the powers to the greedy, he would fall to the ground from absolute overpowering, as happens to a cow when it eats too much alfalfa.
To achieve this major goal, he refused to even formally register the DP with the CEC to participate in the local elections, postponed at his request (but also the Bundestag), on the exact date he had chosen himself.
And, without further ado, the culmination of the "mathematics" was the "historic" Assembly of 2,000 chairs with 5,000 delegates.
These "masterpieces", which even "Diella" can no longer imagine, come to mind when I hear many theses that the creator of "Diella" distributes through less prominent "mathematicians", today in the opposition.
Especially today, faced with a de facto dictatorship, oppositionism must rely, first, on the courage to confront the regime without complexes and, second, on democratic and transparent inclusiveness, which must have as a common denominator the unification of every opposition actor for the realization of an electoral system that restores parliamentarism, which was violated in 2008, and gives citizens the power to elect their deputies (and not mayors).
This would be the first meeting point for all those seeking system change.
The only one who doesn't care about this change is Edi Rama, because even the Socialists are tired of appointing MPs.
On this major basis, more constructive forms of opposition cooperation and organization can be built, preserving the identity of each, but in order to change this system, which is essentially unconstitutional, because it violates the equality and validity of the vote between subjects, but also different regions.
Guaranteeing a comprehensive electoral agreement, which ensures that opposition votes are not wasted, gives all factors the opportunity to get what they deserve.
While imposing "moral conditions" on subjects in an unprincipled manner is only in Rama's service, so that the regime can continue to steal in a schizophrenic manner, claiming that the opposition is "divided".
The invention of parties like G99, which pretend to criticize the regime in order to become the opposition of the opposition, I do not believe will work in the future.
This cannot be a battle for the political survival of any party or individual that is "fed" underground by the regime.
This is an existential battle for Albania and Albanians.
Failure cannot be an option.
Excuses would only serve the anti-Albanian and anti-family regime in power.
Therefore, the main thesis of Rama's proxy opponents, that without removing Berisha we cannot remove Rama, is extremely absurd, immoral and destructive.
