Ilir Meta

In an interview for Syri.net, the President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, stated that in the judicial process against him, the charges brought by SPAK are being proven to be dismissed, according to him, while he accused the Special Prosecution Office of political intimidation against MP Erisa Xhixho.

Meta states that after being blocked for almost three months, the preliminary hearing has resumed normally and that the defense is interested in the trial on the merits starting as soon as possible.

"We want the trial on the merits to begin as soon as possible, so that we can make public all the lies and manipulations that are in the prosecutors' files and that refute their accusations," Meta said.

Referring to reports of strong clashes with prosecutors in the courtroom, Meta said that his interventions only occurred when, according to him, the prosecution openly lied to the court.

" We only intervened when the prosecutor openly lied to the court, so that the truth would be recorded on audio for the future ," he declared, emphasizing that any reaction was within procedural ethics.

The most serious, according to him, was the involvement of MP Erisa Xhixho in the process, which Meta described as political abuse.

" The prosecutor, for political purposes, misused the name of Ms. Erisa Xhixho, claiming that she was politically rewarded for actions that her father allegedly committed years ago. This is a revolting lie ," Meta said.

Excerpt from the interview

How is the preliminary hearing going? What do you expect from it?

Fortunately, its almost 3-month blockade has ended and is proceeding normally, and we are interested in the trial on the merits starting as soon as possible, in order to make public all the lies and numerous manipulations contained in the dossiers that refute the prosecutors' accusations.
Fortunately, after 8 years of investigation, they realized that METE is not Meta(j), but the acronym for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy.

The audience will understand much more in each session and even more at the end of the farce.

The media has reported on your strong clashes with prosecutors. Why did they happen?

We have only intervened in those cases where the prosecutor has openly lied to the court, because we want to not only help the court understand the truth, but we also want every lie to be clearly recorded on audio for the future.

But all the interventions were within tolerable ethics, because otherwise the judge would have interrupted the process and taken measures against me or my lawyers.

Can you tell us some lies?

If I were to list the lies told by the prosecutors, I would write an entire novel, but I will briefly mention just two simple ones to understand.
One lie the prosecutor told the court was that I had signed the contract with GSIS, and we were forced to produce the contract in front of our eyes and take a copy to the court.
Another lie was that I had allegedly made luxury expenses.

I was forced to interrupt the prosecutor and ask him to show just one instance where I, Ilir Metaj, had made a luxury expense inside or outside the country according to their 35-year investigation.

There was no response to this reaction and it was normal.

My most expensive expense was Altin Mici's suits many years ago, and back then they were up to 400 euros.
But the most revolting lie was when the prosecutor, solely for political purposes, misused the name of Ms. Erisa Xhixho, as if she had been rewarded as a safe-list MP for alleged actions that her father had taken in the years 2013-2016, in favor of the suspects in this process.

This lie was truly revolting, because Ms. Xhixho first became an MP in 2021.
If this claim were true, she would have been "rewarded" in 2017.
Likewise, in 2021, there were no secure lists like in 2025.

But what I want to highlight most in this case, which shows political vileness, has to do with the fact that in the first telegram that was used to kidnap me, Ms. Xhixho was not mentioned at all, even though she was the same MP then as she is today.

But after the 1 million dollar charge and many other stories like this were dropped, they were forced to move on to other nonsense.
I was forced to explain to the judge that the deliberate misuse of a lady who has her own family, just for political propaganda, is very shameful.
Likewise, I was forced to explain to the judge, but also to the prosecutors that I have known Mr. Xhixho since the years '97-'98, when he was an important leader in the field of telecommunications in the socialist governments and his daughter was 11 years old (so 8 years old).

Likewise, I emphasized Mr. Xhixho's major contributions to the very successful privatizations in the field of telecommunications, especially in blocking the "New World Telecom" affair that would have cost the Albanian state, at that time, almost 200 million euros.

His involvement in this process is purely political and aimed at politically intimidating his daughter due to her political positions.

It was made very clear in the last session and in fact this is the sole purpose of this judicial farce.

The standards of kidnapping are also the standards of investigation, but also of detention, as the Ombudsman has also highlighted.
