The head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, has started preparations for next year's parliamentary elections, where he recently held a meeting with the structures in Elbasan.

The media said that in Elbasan, drug trafficking has become dominant and that criminal groups are used in cooperation with the government to manipulate the elections.

 "Today we are not a constitutional parliamentary republic, but a prime ministerial republic, where Albania is exchanged for certain interests of power in any possible form. What is even worse, and you are witnessing here in Elbasan, drug trafficking has become dominant. Powerful drug trafficking groups, who have the money, also dominate politics. They choose. They decide. Unfortunately, it is an obvious, acceptable relationship of today's government. Even further, due to the interests of power, there is no more freedom, no rights, and no laws. These criminal groups are used in cooperation with the government to manipulate elections, to intimidate voters, to buy votes, to tell Albanians that your vote is not valid. But when the vote is not valid, our lives are not valid, the lives of our children are not valid, the sacrifice of our parents is not valid," Fatmir Mediu emphasized.

In the meeting with the structures of the Republican Party in Elbasan, Mediu pointed out the need that the country has for the functioning of justice.

"Albania needs justice independent from politics, but not independent from the law and the constitution, to be used in an occult way ", said the president of PR.
