A different aspect, unknown to many, of the personality of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, is illuminated through the exhibition entitled "Improvisations", which includes mixed works and sculptures created by him and opens on March 21 at the Zappeion Residence. The exhibition organized by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs is curated by Mrs. Katerina Koskina, art historian-museologist. A large-scale structure-installation covered with wallpaper, on which a large number of Edi Rama's paintings are printed, defines the space and dynamically activates the exhibition. The wall paper also has original works, painted on documents, as well as ceramics.

The title of the exhibition echoes the artist's particular way of working. On A4-sized papers from notes, diaries or political documents, already used, E. Rama improvises with paints, pastels, markers and watercolors that are always there, while acting as a senior official during meetings and teleconferences. As he noted, this automatic artistic writing helps him focus on these discussions while carrying out his political duties. Common elements of the works are bold colors, a sense of flow and movement, biomorphic forms that seem to emerge from each other, and the pursuit of artistic gesture.

Edi Rama's work is related to his perception of an art with a social role, integrated into everyday life and public space. He implemented this concept when, after a two-year term as Minister of Culture of his country, he became the Mayor of Tirana, a position he held for a long time, after being elected three times. After all, as he emphasized in his interview with Hans Ulrich Obrist, "art is a social infrastructure".

As the curator of the exhibition says: The Exhibition of Improvisations, which is the first wide presentation of Edi Rama's work in Greece, is of double interest, as it not only sheds light on the activity of an artist with experience in the field of education as . well (due to his activity for several years as a professor at the Academy of Arts in Tirana), but also the personality of a politician for whom art is not only an expression of freedom, but also a means of social and political cohesion.

The exhibition will run until March 31 and entry will be free to the public.
