Gladis Nano's confrontation with Prime Minister Edi Rama does not seem to have ended with the dismissal by the head of the State Police in the last days of August 2022.
The Administrative Court of Tirana has started a legal battle between Nano and the government. As our source near this court shows, the former Director General of the State Police has filed a lawsuit through which he seeks to assess as illegal the dismissal by the Council of Ministers.
It would be naive if Gladis Nano claimed to be reinstated. But we do not believe that this is his objective. He is only seeking to legally undo the government's sudden decision to dismiss him.
Precisely the designation as "dismissal" in the decision is the part that disturbs him. Overturning this government decision as illegal will pave the way for the raising of other claims by Nano, why not for financial compensation.
The judge of the case, the source tells Lapsi.al , has administered almost a large part of the documentation he needs for this process. Not only the impeachment decision which is publicly accessible, but also the accompanying report specially prepared to legally copy Gladis Nano's impeachment. Our source further adds that the first sessions of the process, the end of which is not known, have been held.
Even formally for the continuation of his career, maybe never again in the State Police, but in another direction, a government decision with " dismissal " does not seem to help Gladis Nano to ever return to the state structures .
For this reason, he started a court battle with Edi Rama, while he is also pursuing his Master's studies at the Faculty of Law in a special program supported by the OSCE.
The dismissal of Gladis Nano came at that time after he had refused the negotiated departure with resignation from the State Police. Guided by the American embassy in Tirana, which had continuously supported Gladis Nano, he resisted the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior. Rama later admitted that he had asked Nano to resign, but according to him, he shook his word.
Then came the dismissal that left many question marks and conundrums. The narrative was widely spread that Gladis Nano was dismissed because he was a director of the State Police who whispered more than was necessary in the ears of the embassies and this disrupted the Tirana regime.
It is for this reason that he was dismissed and will be remembered as the shortest-lived director at the head of the State Police. The shortest-lived director and without any great brilliance in office, like in fact all the other directors that Rama has led to the State Police during these 10 years./ Lapsi.al
