Socialist MP Erion Braçe sees corruption as a major problem in governance for 33 years and not a problem of the government. In the interview with Merita Hakjan on A2, he says that this is a stable phenomenon in Albania for which, beyond modernization, justice must act. According to him, the functioning of justice is a necessity for the fight against this phenomenon.
"What are these deputies or candidates for deputies or candidates for mayors who buy votes are people who dispose of money in informal ways, corruption or tax evasion. They are unpunished. Can I compete with them? No never. I will make a great effort in the campaign to go 2-3 times to those villages to create correlation with those people so that they are not given the money that flows down the river due to impunity by justice structures. This distorts democracy, the lack of justice against illegal money and fiscal evasion".
He was also critical of the parties, which according to him are not immune to corruption, as they look for candidates who win at all costs.
"The parties are not immune. I don't know where I said that the parties are immune in relation to corruption, on the contrary, the parties are very open to a candidate who wins at any cost and at any price. I appreciate doctors very much, but in terms of management, it can be one in 10,000 who is a good manager in addition to being a good doctor who knows and serves. How do you explain that doctors run from time to time? As a member of parliament, I understand, but as a leader of the local government. We have had prime ministers, but these are simply vote magnets, but with consequences in the end that may be a failure, but as money works, so do other things; a businessman who has number of workers. The monopolization of the economy of enterprise in a few narrow hands that we know as the sole employer has a clear derivation in democracy. In the conditions where you do not have a protective instrument for the workers, depending on the one who gives them the salary also conditions their vote in the election and this is one of the forms that appears from time to time in this country. If it is not taken into account, this form is competitive with those who have money for corruption and black money, and in the end, the space for others who want to deal with honest politics is limited".
