Former president Ilir Meta has recently published a photo on social networks, where he appears next to a flock of sheep of the indigenous Bardhoka breed.
Emphasizing the importance of this breed for the production of meat, milk and wool, Meta warned that Bardhoka is in danger due to the lack of financial support.
Meta stated that the Freedom Party has animal husbandry as one of its main priorities and promised support for Albanian farmers with direct payments of 60 euros for each head of sheep or goats, instead of the 12 euros currently offered. He also announced the reduction of the benefit threshold from 100 to 20 head, promising to improve the welfare of farmers and stop depopulation in traditional areas of the country.
" I am in the middle of a flock of sheep of the autochthonous breed Bardhoka or Delja e Tropoja, Malësi e Madhe, Dukagjin and Kosova. This breed of our Highlands is a national pride.
Famous for meat, milk and wool production, it is perfectly adapted to the mountain climate. Today, Bardhoka is threatened by the abandonment of financial support.
The Freedom Party has Animal Husbandry as its top priority. We will support Albanian farmers with direct payments of 60 euros for each head of sheep and goats from 12 euros that is currently and the benefit threshold will be reduced from 100 to 20 heads.
Rewarding the efforts and sacrifices of Albanian farmers will not only increase their well-being, but this is also a patriotic duty to stop the depopulation of the most patriotic provinces like Tropoja and to turn Albania into an exporting power ," writes Meta on social networks.
