Budapest hosts the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Southeast European Countries, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Klodiana Spahiu: Albania's path towards the EU a mission

The Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Southeast European countries was held in Budapest, where the topic of the enlargement process and that of economic investments and energy interconnections was discussed.

Present was the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Klodiana Spahiu, who underlined that: "Albania's path towards membership in the European Union is not simply an objective of our government, it is a national mission that unites us all and transcends political divisions."

"We remain committed to our objective of securing our place in the European Union by 2027," said Spahiu during the speech, while also present were Commissioner for Animal Health and Welfare, Oliver Varhelyi, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and other personalities.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Varhelyi described the enlargement process as essential and a journey that should not be missed.

He said that Europe has entered a new era, emphasizing that the time has come for the Union to rely on its own resources, especially in Energy and Health.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament said that the EU's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans represents a transformative opportunity.

"Albania is fully committed to implementing the necessary reforms to fully exploit its potential. Through this framework, we aim to mobilize investments in strategic infrastructure, energy interconnections, digital transformation and sustainable economic development, accelerating our convergence with the European Union," Spahiu underlined, mentioning Corridor VIII, which stands as a strategic development axis connecting the Adriatic with the Black Sea and is expected to have a major impact on the economy of the countries in the region, but also as an investment in regional connectivity and geopolitical stability.

During this conference, Spahiu also met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, László Kövér, where he expressed his position that Albania is ready to join the EU. He also had a special meeting with the Albanian Ambassador in Budapest, Ilirian Kuka.
