Miley Cyrus has shared for the first time one of the biggest health problems that is directly affecting her music career.
In an interview for The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, the singer revealed that she suffers from a large polyp on her vocal cords, which she described as a daily challenge to her performances.
"It's part of my unique anatomy. It's given me a lot of the tone and structure that defines me, but it's incredibly difficult to sing with, it's like running a marathon with weights on your ankles," Cyrus said.
She described her distinctive voice as "the ultimate vocal leap," adding that her lifestyle at age 21, accompanied by late nights, alcohol, smoking and partying, didn't help the situation, but wasn't a direct cause of the problem.
Despite the physical pain and hardship, Cyrus said she always had the mentality of "the show must go on." "It was quite traumatic, because it was incredibly painful, and yet I performed normally," she said.
In the same interview, the artist revealed another worrying episode in her health, where she ended up in intensive care due to a serious foot infection that caused "decomposition," putting even an experienced surgeon in a difficult position.
Health problems have influenced her decision not to undertake music tours, despite her success and continued demand from fans.
