French President Emmanuel Macron made a surprise and unofficial appearance on Tuesday morning (February 16), as he was seen jogging along the Marine Drive promenade in Mumbai, attracting the attention of passersby.

The French leader, who is in India on a three-day official visit from February 17 to 19 to attend the AI ??Impact Summit India 2026, reportedly found some time for his daily workout ahead of his scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At first, no one recognized him, but once word spread that it was the French President, crowds of people rushed to see him and record the moment on their cell phones.

The video was posted on social media and quickly went viral in a rare appearance by him away from the political sphere. Before departing for India, President Macron had stressed the importance of the trip to India, stating that he was traveling with business leaders and representatives from the economic, industrial, cultural and digital sectors.

He described India as a close ally, while underlining that the aim of the visit was to further strengthen the specific cooperation between the two countries. Macron met Modi at Lok Bhavan, where bilateral talks were held.

The Indian Prime Minister recently posted on X stating that "it's a pleasure to meet my friend, President Macron, in Mumbai! He told me that he really likes the city and that he also enjoyed his morning run today!"
