NASA captures audio and video of electrical discharges on Mars
The phenomenon confirms the theory of static electricity in Martian dust.

The sounds of dust storms on the planet Mars are recorded.

The Perseverance rover sent back the recordings, and the images along with audio of the phenomenon have been published by NASA.

For decades, scientists have suspected that dust carried by the Martian wind could accumulate enough static electricity to cause small electrical discharges, which has now been verified and proven with the latest video.

The recording was taken in the Jezero crater, and it is the first time that, thanks to the SuperCam microphone installed on the Rover, it has been possible to record the sounds of electrical discharges of thunderstorms, which are dust vortices caused by the wind.

They are not as spectacular as lightning on Earth nor as large, but are very small, limited to a few centimeters.
