Misty Roberts , 43, has been convicted of raping a 16-year-old boy during a party at her home while she was still mayor of a town in Louisiana .

The 43-year-old faces years in prison after a jury found her guilty of two crimes: sexual intercourse with a minor or rape of a minor and lewd conduct with a minor .

This was preceded by a seven-day trial during which evidence was presented about how Roberts sexually abused the minor while the two had been drinking heavily during a pool party at her home in July 2024, when she was already in her second term as an elected official in the town of DeRinder.

On the final day of the trial, the victim testified that “ despite the fact that I had drunk so much that I was vomiting, Roberts ‘flirted’ with me in the pool and started kissing me .”

The young man, who was too young to give legal consent to have sex with the 43-year-old, testified that she eventually took him into her arms and raped him.

The victim also described hearing Roberts arguing with his son and shouting: " Go fight your boyfriend, he's the person who did it ."

Roberts resigned as mayor a day after authorities began investigating allegations that she had raped a minor./TheGuardian
