What luck! The man suffers a heart attack over the North Pole, 56 cardiologists

A passenger on a Scandinavian Airlines SAS plane suffered a mid-air cardiac arrest over the North Pole, causing the flight to be disrupted.

Fortunately for the patient, there were 56 cardiologists on board who were on their way to a medical conference in Los Angeles.

In an interview given to the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, the pilot Henrik Nielsen tells how he tried hard to keep his cool, knowing that the passenger was in danger.

But at the same time the captain of the flight could not believe in the fate of the passenger.

As the pilot mentioned, he will never forget this special experience and is thankful that it had a happy ending.

The plane took off from Stockholm, Sweden with the final destination of Los Angeles in the USA, and when it was over the North Pole, it was informed by the flight attendants that a passenger had suffered a cardiac arrest.

"It happened at the worst possible moment. We looked for the nearest airport, but it was four hours away.

Fortunately, I then learned some very good news because I was informed by the cabin crew that there were 56 cardiologists on board who were going to a conference in Los Angeles."

"The stewardess didn't even have time to give first aid to the man, as the doctors "jumped right over" to help him. They managed to stabilize his condition and then explained to us exactly what happened to the passenger," he added.

“An ambulance that was called picked up the man when the plane landed in Los Angeles and while he had to be taken to the hospital, paramedics first took him to Palm Springs because that's where his birthday party was. Since he was feeling well, he stayed at the party he had organized for his 40th birthday," the pilot concluded.
