Invited to "Live From Tirana" with Ronaldo Sharka was Zhaklin Lekatari, to discuss more about the shocking case in Fier, where a father sexually abused his minor daughter...
After this case was made public in the media, many comments on social media expressed the opinion of the death penalty. How do you see this?
Jacqueline Lekatari: This has been the most scandalous thing, from these upstanding people who were the first to propose the death penalty. And what worries me is how these people can think that if the state takes the right to the death penalty, doesn't that make the state equal to the murderer?
And since when can murder be cleansed or undone by another murder? And since when do we think that justice is not a moral resurrection, but a destruction and an extinction of the existence of the person who has also committed a crime? We live in a democratic, secular state.
And the goal of a democratic and secular state of a republic such as Albania is not to open prisons and overcrowd prisons, but to rehabilitate these people, that is, to prevent them. Even the police institution. The goal of the police institution is not to catch the criminal after the crime has been committed, but to prevent crime.
When the police prevent crime, then it is said that this institution has successfully done its job. After the crime has occurred and the police carry out the technical procedures of the case that they are supposed to do, I do not consider this successful.
That's why I don't believe in the death penalty, I don't believe that a democratic country that aims for democracy like Albania, that aims to be sovereign, that aims for the European Union, should bring the death penalty into the antechamber of its mind.
I am extremely disgusted by this possibility, the fact that every time we have such macabre events, we never think about how to prevent this event, what happened, why do these people do such events?
Why has Albania become a cauldron of macabre social phenomena? Why do we only find death as an option? So to prevent death, we have death! /TAR/
