Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married his partner Jodie Haydon, becoming the country's first leader to marry while in office, according to the BBC.

The couple married yesterday afternoon in the capital, Canberra, the day after the last parliamentary session of the year.

"We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our lives together, in front of our family and closest friends," Albanese said in a brief statement.

The couple got engaged on Valentine's Day last year. The wedding reception was held at his official residence, "The Lodge."

Until the big day, the wedding plans had been kept secret due to security concerns.

Haydon's parents were present, as well as Albanese's son from his previous marriage.

Albanese's dog, Toto, served as ring bearer as the couple walked down the aisle to the tune of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)."

The Prime Minister also shared a video on social media showing the happy couple walking towards the altar, while guests showered them with confetti.

Several of Albanese's cabinet ministers attended the ceremony, as well.

Their first dance was to the sounds of "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra.

The celebrations also included custom-made beer cans with the couple's image.

Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 47, first met at a business dinner in Melbourne in 2020, while the prime minister was leader of the opposition.

Haydon appeared during Albanese's election campaigns in 2022 and 2025, and was seen alongside the prime minister at major events, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and at a state dinner hosted by former US President Joe Biden.

Albanese is the first Australian prime minister to marry while in office.
