Trump revokes visas for Palestinians before UN Assembly

The U.S. is denying and revoking visas to members of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority ahead of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September, the U.S. State Department said in a statement on Friday.

The restrictions mean that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will likely not be able to travel to New York to deliver a speech at the annual meeting, as he usually does.

This action comes after the imposition of US sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization in July, even as other Western powers moved towards recognizing Palestinian statehood.

In its statement, the State Department said the Palestinian Authority's mission to the UN would not be included in the restrictions.
