A strong storm that swept through Cyprus has caused a tragic event in the Cape Greco area.
Well-known Limassol businessman and former racing driver, Dimis Mavropoulos, 76, lost his life after the boat he was on crashed into rocks.
The incident occurred in the sea area of Agioi Anargyroi, between Cape Greco and Konnos, where weather conditions deteriorated rapidly.
Three boats faced rough seas and strong winds, while two of them ended up stranded on rocks and were destroyed.
Authorities activated the National Search and Rescue Plan “NEARCHOS” and launched an operation with naval and air assets. Mavropoulos was found unconscious on the rocks, but despite the intervention, he could not survive.

His daughter and partner were also injured in the accident and were transported to Famagusta General Hospital. In total, six people were rescued from the operation.
Mavropoulos was a well-known figure in Cyprus, not only for his business activities but also for his past as a rally driver. He had been racing since a young age and was later involved in the creation of the Cyprus Automobile Museum in Limassol, where he collected historic and rare vehicles.
The storm caused widespread damage across the island, with flooding, building damage, downed trees and power outages. Authorities received hundreds of calls for help, with severe weather affecting both urban and coastal areas.
