The elected deputies will gather today for the eighth continuation of the session to constitute the legislature resulting from the February 9 parliamentary elections.
The continuation of the session begins at 10:00 and has been scheduled by the chairman, Avni Dehari.
The Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of Kosovo provide that any interruption of the constitutive session cannot last more than 48 hours.
In five attempts, the Vetëvendosje Movement failed to secure the votes to elect Albulena Haxhiu as the new Speaker of the Parliament.
The Assembly is considered constituted only after the Speaker and Deputy Speakers have been appointed, to pave the way for the formation of the new Government, for which Albin Kurti does not have the necessary votes.
Albulena Haxhiu is seen by the opposition as a divisive figure, but Vetëvendosje insists that she is a deserving candidate as she is the woman with the most votes in the February elections. In attempts to be elected to the head of the Assembly so far, the former Minister of Justice has received 57 votes at most.
PDK and AAK have said that the first winning party must propose another acceptable candidate for Speaker of the Assembly, while LDK has warned that it will not vote for any LVV candidate for Speaker of Parliament.
Political parties have not ruled out holding new elections, but for this to happen, the ninth legislature must first be constituted, after which it would be dissolved and the President of Kosovo would set the date for holding early elections.
In the parliamentary elections of February 9, LVV won 48 seats, PDK 24, LDK 20 and the AAK-NISMA coalition 8 seats.
Recall that in the 2011 elections, the CEC certified the results on February 7, while the then-legislature was constituted in the first constitutive session on February 21. In the 2014 elections, certification took place on June 8, the first constitutive session on July 17, and the then-legislature was constituted on December 8.
In the 2017 elections, the results were certified on July 8, the first constitutive session was held on August 3, and the then legislature was constituted on September 7.
Two years later, the certification of the results took place on November 27, 2019, the first constitutive session on December 24, while the then legislature was constituted two days later - on December 26.
In the 2021 elections, the CEC certified the results on March 13, while 9 days later - on March 22, the constitutive session was held, where the eighth legislature was constituted. Kosovapress.
