US warns airlines flying over Venezuela!
Nicolas Maduro/Donald Trump

Major airlines have been warned of a "potentially dangerous situation" when flying over Venezuela.

The warning from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) comes just days after the US Navy's largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford , arrived in the Caribbean Sea, in what has been interpreted as a show of military power and a potential threat to Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro regime .

The administration has carried out a series of attacks on small boats in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, which it accuses of transporting drugs to the US, killing more than 80 people since the campaign began in early September.

Donald Trump has hinted that military action will expand beyond attacks from the sea, saying the US will " stop drugs coming from the land ".

However, the US government has not released any evidence to support its claims that those killed on the ship were " narco-terrorists ."

The FAA announcement cited "the deteriorating security situation and increased military activity in or around Venezuela" and said the threats could pose risks to aircraft at all altitudes.

There has been a major buildup of US military forces in the region in recent months, including at least eight more warships and F-35 aircraft.
