A former Thai soldier killed his wife and three others before taking his own life, police have told the BBC.

Chaturong Suksuk, 29, and Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, were married on Saturday in northeastern Thailand.

According to reports, he abruptly left the wedding and returned with a gun, shooting his wife, her 62-year-old mother and her 38-year-old sister.
The bullets also shot two of the guests, who were rushed to the hospital, but one of them died.

According to local police, Chaturong was quite drunk at the time he committed the gruesome crimes, but his motive remains unclear.

He had bought the gun and ammunition legally last year, they added.

According to some guests, the couple argued with each other during the party. Chaturong reportedly had an issue with the age gap between him and Kanchana.

Chaturong and Kanchana had lived together for three years before getting married, according to Thai media.
The groom had won a silver medal in swimming at the Asean Para Games in Indonesia last year. He was also believed to be on the list of athletes to compete in the World Skill Sports Games in Thailand next month.

The 29-year-old had lost his right leg while on duty with the paramilitary light infantry force, which patrols Thailand's borders.
