Greenland's foreign minister broke down in tears during a live interview, describing the pressure she is under following Donald Trump's threatening statements regarding the imposition of American sovereignty over her country.
Speaking on a television show, Vivian Motzfeldt appeared to be in tears as she referred to the "huge pressure" she has been under due to the US president's threats to invade the territory of Greenland.
“We are working hard, despite the fact that we are not many,” she said in an interview with the national network KNR after the talks. “Normally I would not want to say these words, but I will say: ‘We are very strong. We are doing our best. But in the last few days, of course…” she managed to add before tears welled up in her eyes.
"I'm so excited. I'm overwhelmed. The last few days have been difficult. Our preparations and the increasing pressure have been intense," she finally managed to say.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the Greenlandic government remains strong and promised to work "so that the Greenlandic people in our country feel safe and live safely," adding: "We are using all our strength to achieve this as we continue our work."
Motzfeldt met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House, in talks that ended with a dispute over Greenland that has whetted Trump's appetite.
