The Prime Minister of Italy, Georgia Meloni, has reacted on Twitter to the attacks made by Serbian protesters in the north of Kosovo, against the soldiers of the KFOR mission.
She said that this would no longer be tolerated and also said that all unilateral actions of Kosovo should be avoided, adding that everyone at this moment should take a step back, thus contributing to easing tensions in the north of Kosovo.
"On my own behalf and on behalf of the Government, I express my most sincere feelings of closeness to the Italian soldiers injured during the riots in Kosovo. I also express my strongest condemnation for the attack that was made against the KFOR mission, where soldiers from other nations were also involved. What is happening is absolutely unacceptable and irresponsible.
We will not tolerate further attacks on KFOR. It is essential that further unilateral actions by the Kosovar authorities are avoided and that all parties involved immediately take a step back, contributing to the easing of tensions.
The commitment of the Italian government to peace and stability in the Western Balkans is maximum and we will continue to work with our allies. I confirm my closeness with the Italian army and the strong gratitude of the government for the exceptional professionalism and commendable spirit of service they show in all circumstances", said the Prime Minister of Italy.
