Kurti: Relations with the USA are very good, but we don't agree on

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Monday that relations with the United States are good despite disagreements on some issues.

His comments followed statements by American officials who said that the lack of coordination between the Kosovo government and the United States regarding the regulation that prohibits the use of the Serbian dinar has already affected the quality of the partnership between the two governments.

"As the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, I have said that our relations, our cooperation with the United States of America is very good, now we are partners, allies and friends, this does not mean that we agree absolutely every time in every country on everything, however, in this aspect, we have a new regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo, which the government of Kosovo, according to the Constitution and the law, has the duty to support, so I also say that our reports are very good and I stand by this word. So there is no discrepancy between the weather today and the relations with the USA", said Prime Minister Kurti.

The regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo, according to which the euro is the only currency that can be used for ready payments in Kosovo, came into force on February 1 despite calls from the international community to postpone its implementation.

Western diplomacy strongly criticized the Kosovo government over the decision, which prompted a reaction from Belgrade, which accused the Kosovo government of threatening the survival of Kosovo's Serbs.

The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani said today that the United States and other allies are not asking Kosovo to keep the dinar or not to respect the country's Constitution. She said that a transitional plan for the implementation of the regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo is being discussed.

"Even in this case, the discussions are still continuing on what will be the implementation transition plan, which will take into account everyone's concerns. As every other time, cooperation with our allies never leads Kosovo to the wrong path, so as the president of the country, I constantly encourage the institutions to maximize cooperation, because whenever we act united, we are much stronger, and the same this is what I am asking for even now, and I am convinced that we are on the right path, that this transition plan is achieved with everyone's agreement, and that we are effective as a whole but together with our allies in the implementation of our Constitution in every corner of the country", said President Osmani.

The objections surrounding the implementation of the Central Bank's regulation have raised concerns in Kosovo about the impact they may have on relations with the United States of America and other international partners, who have continuously requested its postponement. Connoisseurs of political developments in the country say that the authorities in Kosovo should take action as soon as possible in accordance with international requirements to prevent declarations from turning into concrete punitive measures.
