An Albanian man has been sentenced to 32 months in prison after trying to traffic 12 immigrants to Great Britain in an overcrowded yacht with a damaged engine.
It is about Eduard Mucajn , 50, from Albania, who was arrested by Border Force officials after sailing "irregularly" from the Netherlands to Lowestoft, Suffolk, last August.
The 50-year-old is considered by the British media as a "cynical and reckless" people smuggler who crossed the North Sea in a small yacht.
Among the 12 Albanian immigrants was an 8-year-old boy who was found below the deck, without a life jacket. Two of the migrants had previously been deported from the UK for committing serious offences.
The yacht had a damaged engine, no safety equipment and was more than triple its capacity.
Mucaj had left Den Oever in the Netherlands in the early hours of August 9.
The Dutch coast guard tracked his yacht which was sailing "erratic". Officials tried to make contact with Muçaj and, when he did not answer their calls, the Home Office was alerted.
Border Force intercepted the yacht two days later when it entered UK waters.
