Croatian KFOR pilot and his girlfriend from North Mitrovica arrested, suspected of spying for Serbia

Croatian newspaper Index.hr reported on Wednesday, August 27, that Croatian authorities have arrested a Croatian Air Force pilot who had also worked in KFOR and his Serbian girlfriend from Mitrovica, on suspicion of espionage for Serbia.

As this medium reported yesterday, it concerns the Croatian pilot JI of the Croatian Air Force and his girlfriend AM of Serbian nationality from the city of Mitrovica.

Gazeta Express has learned exclusively from its own sources that the arrested AM is 46-year-old Ana (Dragomir) Murganić, residing in North Mitrovica, on "Ivo Lola Ribar" street.

But what information is the Croatian-Serbian couple suspected of sharing?

As reported by the newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, the spy ring began to unravel after the couple was arrested a month ago in Vis, where they were on vacation. Although the reasons for the initial detention are not officially known, the pilot was quickly released. His partner was ordered to be placed in the Transit Reception Center for Foreigners in Trilj, and then deported from Croatia with a 10-year ban.

However, a search of their mobile phones revealed communications indicating the transfer of classified information to Serbian politicians. This was data that JI had collected during his service in Kosovo as a member of the Croatian contingent (HRVCON) as part of the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping mission. Following these discoveries, both were arrested again.

In yesterday's report by Index.hr, investigators suspect that the Croatian pilot had given confidential information to his girlfriend, which information then passed through her into the hands of members of the Serbian List.

This information also included data on the movements of KFOR troops and Serbs in northern Kosovo throughout 2022 and beyond.

Ana Murganić, the Croatian pilot's girlfriend, had previously worked at EULEX, which has been confirmed by the international mission itself.

According to Croatian analyst Ivica Mandic, the issue is even more serious, as he claims that Ana Murganic's connections reach all the way to the Serbian presidency and the Kosovo prime minister.

Mandic, in an interview with the well-known Croatian media outlet "Vercenji list", said that the Croatian pilot's girlfriend had direct connections with Vučić but also with the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo.

"The girl had a direct connection to the office of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, but also to the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo. The question is whether the agent was convinced in such an operation, because there is information that she also worked for another service of a major NATO member," military analyst Ivica Mandić said on Wednesday.

The Croatian prosecution confirms espionage investigations into the couple.

The Split District State Prosecutor's Office confirmed today in a press release that they will investigate the Croatian military pilot and his Serbian girlfriend from Mitrovica. In a press release, the investigation was also classified as confidential.

Detention has been requested for the Croatian pilot and his girlfriend.

"The Split District State Prosecutor's Office, upon receipt of the criminal report of the Independent Sector for Military Police Affairs dated August 27, 2025, conducted the evidentiary actions of the first interrogation and issued a decision to conduct investigations against the first defendant, a citizen of the Republic of Croatia (born in 1971) for the criminal offense of espionage under Article 348, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, and the second defendant, a citizen of the Republic of Serbia (born in 1979) for the criminal offense of espionage under Article 348, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code," the statement said.
