Republican congressional candidate from Texas, Valentina Gomez , has caused outrage online after posting a video on the "X" platform in which she is seen setting fire to the Islamic holy book, the Quran.

The video, which was accompanied by the caption " I will end Islam in Texas, so help me God ," quickly went viral, drawing condemnation from Muslim advocacy groups, political leaders and internet users.

“This is not politics. This is incitement,” podcaster Brian Allen wrote on X. “When mosques start burning, remember: this was the match, and the Texas Republican Party provided the lighter.”

Another X user added: " She would do anything for influence. Anything. Why is this person allowed to incite hatred and murder ?"

One X user wrote: “ Get out of my country. We have no place for intolerance and hateful people who don’t believe in basic human rights, such as the FIRST AMENDMENT which allows for freedom of religion. Why don’t you learn the basics before running for office? ”

This isn't the first time Gomez has caused controversy.

In May 2025, she stormed onto the stage at a Muslim civic engagement event at the Texas State Capitol, grabbing the microphone and launching into an anti-Islamic speech.

Footage shared online showed him declaring: "Islam has no place in Texas. Help me get to Congress so we can end the Islamization of America. I only fear God."

The event, known as Texas Muslim Capitol Day, included prayers, training sessions and meetings with legislators.

Her actions drew harsh criticism from civil rights groups, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which denounced her rhetoric as dangerous and called for accountability, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious freedom.

The episode of burning the Quran adds to a series of provocative actions.

In December 2024, Gomez released a campaign video depicting the mock execution of a hooded immigrant, calling for “public executions” of undocumented migrants accused of violent crimes.

Social media platforms restricted footage for violating rules on violent content.

Earlier this year she filmed herself burning LGBTQ+ literature, vowing to ban such materials if elected, while also targeting transgender communities in her speeches.

Who is Valentina Gomez?

Born in Medellín, Colombia, on May 8, 1999, Gomez moved to the United States with her family in 2009, settling in Jersey City, New Jersey.

She initially worked as a real estate investor before entering politics.

In 2024, she ran unsuccessfully for Missouri Secretary of State, finishing sixth in the Republican primary with only 7.4% of the vote.

Despite repeated electoral failures and multiple social media bans for violating platform rules, Gomez has continued to build her online profile with inflammatory content, positioning herself as a far-right figure who is not afraid of controversy.
