A former professional footballer turned " drug baron " has been ordered to pay back £70,000 of her criminal profits or serve eight months in prison by a British court.

39-year- old mother-of-one Faye Dunn was jailed for three-and-a-half years last year after pleading guilty to drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges after being caught red-handed at Manchester Airport. The 39-year-old was today ordered to pay her earnings to the state by Liverpool Crown Court.

Prosecutor Nicola Daley said Dunn has benefited at least £152,953.96 from her involvement in organized crime, although her current holdings stand at around £69,747.70, along with a Peugeot 1007 car valued at around £1,085 as well as around 2,000 pieces of jewelry.

The court said that some sums in Coinbase electronic currency and a savings fund are also seized from her.

The former professional footballer was not present in court but was represented by lawyer Catherine Collins, who was given three months to pay £70,000 in compensation or face three months in prison.

Dunn previously enjoyed a successful sporting career and played for the England women's national team 20 years ago.

When she was 18, she was in the squad that qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's U19 European Championship. She has scored a goal in two matches of the youth national team, against Denmark and Switzerland.

The midfielder also played for Tranmere Rovers and then Leeds United until 2003. After retiring from the sport she was a well-known figure in her community supporting young athletes and started several businesses, such as youth sports centers and a restaurant .

But after the failure of her activities during the time of the virus, she seems to have returned to involvement with drugs.

Dunn is believed to have trafficked drugs to Spain by ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and organized meetings between other drug traffickers.

Delivering the verdict, Judge David Potter said: " It is with regret that a woman with the most achievements in her career has to face a criminal sentence ."
