Iran responds to Trump: We are ready for both war and dialogue

The situation in Iran is "under full control" after an escalation of violence over the weekend, which reportedly left hundreds dead, the country's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said on Monday.

Araghchi referred to US President Donald Trump's warning against Tehran, speaking of the action of "terrorists" with bloody motives against protesters and security forces targeted with the aim of provoking foreign intervention.

"We are ready for war, but also for dialogue," the Iranian minister also stressed.

He also assured that internet service will be restored in coordination with security authorities.

Trump: They want to negotiate

Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iranian leaders have contacted his government to "negotiate", following his threats to order military action as the Islamic Republic faces mass protests.

"The Iranian leaders called" the day before yesterday, Saturday, the American president told reporters accompanying him on the presidential plane, adding that "he is in the process of preparing a meeting (...) They want to negotiate."

However, the US president said that "we may need to take action before" any meeting.

"We are looking at the issue very seriously. The military is looking at the issue and we are looking at very strong options. We will make a decision," the US president told reporters accompanying him on his plane.

Asked about Iran's threats of retaliation, he replied: "If they do this, we will hit them at levels that have never been hit before."

A US official previously told Reuters that President Trump is expected to meet with senior advisers on Tuesday to discuss the choice of stance on Iran.
