Israeli ministers are drawing up plans to detain Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in "terrorist-level conditions" after she left Spain on Sunday in the largest fleet of ships bound for Gaza so far.

Ms. Thunberg has been joined by Liam Cunningham, the Game of Thrones actor, and Ada Colau, the former mayor of Barcelona, among others, in what they call the "greatest solidarity mission" in history.

Dozens more ships are expected to leave for Gaza from Tunisia and other ports in the Mediterranean Sea on September 4 to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, which aims to break the siege of Gaza in a symbolic protest against the war and appalling humanitarian conditions.

But Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's national security minister, is planning to present Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan to detain activists in harsh "terrorist-level" conditions at the Ktzi'ot and Damon detention centers for women, according to Israel Hayom, one of Israel's largest newspapers.

The plan also includes seizing dozens of ships and using them to create a "naval force for police operations".

Israel Hayom quoted individuals close to Ben-Gvir as saying, "After a few weeks in Ktzi'ot and Damon, they will regret the time they arrived here. We need to eliminate their appetite for another attempt."

Israel has imposed a blockade in Gaza waters to prevent arms smuggling to Hamas and other terrorist groups. The country has also been accused of causing a famine inside the Belt by blocking aid as part of war plans to remove Hamas and its hostages.

Before departing from the port of Barcelona, Thunberg told Iranian television Press that the flotillas aim to "distribute humanitarian aid and break Israel's illegal siege of Gaza and open a humanitarian corridor for people".
