US Appeals Court Overturns Trade Tariffs, Trump Reacts Harshly: Total Disaster
Donald Trump

The United States Court of Appeals has declared most of the trade tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump during his term illegal.

The decision, approved by 7 votes in favor and 4 against, calls into question the legitimacy of the president's use of tariffs as a tool of international economic policy.

The court notes that while the law gives the president powers to act in the event of national emergencies, these do not expressly include the right to impose tariffs or customs duties. The decision will not take effect until October 14, giving the Trump administration time to appeal to the US Supreme Court, a step that Trump himself has already warned about.

In his public reaction, Trump has called the decision "devastating for the country," arguing that removing the tariffs would make America weaker financially and more exposed to trade deficits and unfair barriers from other countries.

"If these tariffs were ever lifted, it would be a total disaster for the country. It would make us financially weak and we must be strong. The United States will no longer tolerate large trade deficits and unfair tariffs and non-tariff barriers imposed by other countries, friend or foe, that hurt manufacturers, farmers and everyone else. If allowed, this decision will destroy the United States of America," Trump wrote on TruthSocial.

Meanwhile, trade tensions with the European Union have increased. European Commission Vice-President Teresa Ribera has declared that the EU will not make any concessions to the US in the area of technology regulation and digital taxes. She stressed that US companies operating in Europe should be subject to the same rules as any other commercial entity.

French President Emmanuel Macron reacted to Trump's threats to impose tariffs on countries that apply digital taxes, calling them a "form of pressure" that would require a joint response from the EU.

At the same time, new US tariffs have also come into effect on small packages under $800, which previously benefited from customs exemption. Now, these shipments will be taxed, with the exception of gifts under $100. This has led many international postal companies to temporarily suspend shipments to the US.

The court's decision is expected to have a wide-ranging impact on international trade and the US's economic relations with key partners. The legal battle has just begun and is expected to escalate in the coming months.
