A teacher at a high school in Australia has been arrested after allegedly repeatedly having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Karly Rae , 37, appeared in court last week with her newborn child to plead guilty to multiple child sex crimes, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

It is not clear who the baby's father is. Speaking in a low voice, Rae said she had sex with the underage boy in October 2024, the same month she was arrested for her crimes, at various locations in the New South Wales city where she worked, the New York Post reported.

The jury was told that the teacher exchanged messages on Snapchat and Instagram with the minor.

"Maybe we can have one last meeting before we go back to school. I'll bring my toy," the teacher's messages read.

After being released on bail, she called the 15-year-old several times to convince him to lie in court and was then arrested again in June, 7News reported.

“During these calls, it is alleged that she attempted to persuade the appellant to give a false version of events,” Judge Hament Dhanji said at Rae’s bail hearing in June, as reported by 7News.

The teenager had told his mother about the phone calls, while his cousin, who had seen the exchanges of messages on social media between them, also notified the minor's parents.

The teacher, who was expected to go on trial in August 2026 after initially pleading not guilty to all charges, will now be sentenced in March.

She changed her plea to guilty, as her lawyer pointed out that she had an 8-week-old baby with her in court and asked for her case to be treated as a priority, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Rae claimed she was unaware that the boy was a minor, despite the fact that he was a student at her school, according to reports.

She lost her job and the judge ordered her not to be alone in the presence of anyone under the age of 16.

Rae pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a teenage boy, possession of child abuse materials, grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice.
