Donald Trump has "exploded" in criticism of European leaders

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump , has "burst out" in criticism of European leaders, describing them as weak and lost.

In an exclusive interview with Politico, Trump described Europe as a community of nations "in disintegration" and accused its leaders of being "weak" and incapable of making important decisions.

The US president criticized traditional US allies for failing to control immigration and the war in Ukraine.

"I think they are weak. But I also think they want to be very politically correct. They don't know what to do. Europe doesn't even know what to do about trade," he said.

His comments come at a critical moment, as negotiations over the war in Ukraine are tense and some European leaders express concern that the US could abandon Ukraine to Russian aggression. Trump, however, gave no guarantees on the issue, stressing that Russia has a stronger position than Ukraine.

"I'm friendly with everybody. I have no real enemies. I've known smart leaders and stupid leaders. Europe is not doing a good job in many ways," Trump added.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Trump stated that he had proposed a new draft peace agreement, which was welcomed by some Ukrainian officials, but which had not yet been reviewed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It would be great if he read it,” Trump said. Zelensky met with leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, stressing his opposition to any territorial concessions to Russia.

Trump criticizes European leaders for their lack of results: “They talk, but they produce no results, and the war continues unabated.” He also demanded that Ukraine hold new elections, questioning the current functioning of democracy there.

Regarding NATO, he emphasized:  There are countries that are difficult for NATO. Not that they shouldn't be, I think it's good that we have them. Turkey is an example. Erdogan is a friend of mine, whenever they have a problem with him, they ask me to call him because they can't talk to him. He's a tough guy, actually, I like him a lot. I think he's built a strong country, a strong army. But they have difficulty dealing with him and they ask me to call him. And I call him, and I always get through.

Asked about his role in stopping the conflicts, Trump said: “It’s a war that should never have happened. It wouldn’t have happened if I was president. It could have led to World War III. I’ve resolved eight wars and I make deals. But the level of hatred between Putin and Zelensky is great and makes any deal difficult.”

Meanwhile, he further added that Ukraine's membership in NATO has never been seriously considered.

“It was always understood that Ukraine would not be part of NATO, long before Putin. And now they insist. When Zelensky first met with Putin, he said, ‘I want two things: to get Crimea back and for us to become a member of NATO.’ And he didn’t say it very politely. He’s a great salesman,” Trump said in the Politico interview.

Asked if he would be involved in the European elections, Trump responded that his focus remains on governing the United States.

However, he did not rule out support for European candidates who align with his vision, citing as examples support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and several figures from Latin America.
