Erdogan warns the US: If you don't give us F-16 planes, we will turn to
Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that his country may turn to countries such as Russia if the US fails to deliver on a promise to provide F-16 fighter jets.

"Turkey may turn to other countries, including Russia, to buy fighter jets if the United States does not give it F-16 fighters. I hope the United States does not push us down other paths. What I mean by this is that the United States is not the only one in the world that sells fighter jets. They also sell England, France, Russia. It is possible to take them anywhere," Erdogan said.

Turkey was excluded from a program to replace a wide range of fighter, attack and ground attack aircraft for NATO allies after it bought an advanced Russian missile defense system in 2019.

With US-Turkey relations improving in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US President Joe Biden told Erdogan in June that he would support the sale of the less advanced F-1 jets, but has not found support from the US Congress.
