The rape of a 13-year-old girl in Italy by a group of illegal immigrants aged 15-19 has sparked strong reactions in Italy.

The minor was raped in front of her 17-year-old boyfriend in a public bathroom, while the incident took place in the Villa Bellini park in Catania, Sicily on the afternoon of January 30.

After the news, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini called for the chemical castration of the perpetrators of the vicious attack on the minor.

"The girl was raped by a group of seven Egyptians. There is only one cure in this case, chemical castration", said Salvini.

According to him, his party will soon present the proposal on this issue with MP Annalisa Tardino, adding that chemical castration is necessary for rapists and pedophiles.
