Twitter sues Elon Musk: Earned $156ml from stock manipulation

Tewtter's shareholders filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, where they accuse him of involvement and illegal conduct with the aim of raising doubts about his bid to buy the company and consequently lower ing the value of the stock.

The lawsuit was handed over to a court in California and in all shareholders allege that the Telesla billionaire has sought to lower Twitter's share price, threatening either leaving the deal, or a price significantly lower than $44 billion as agreed.

Musk last month offered $44 trillion to buy Twitter, but later said he had decided to freeze the deal until the company clarified how many fake users it was on the social network.

The problem of bots and fake Twitter accounts is not new. The company paid $809.5 million last year to settle claims that it was overestimating its growth rate and monthly user figures.

To finance some of the acquisitions, Musk has sold Off Shares of Tesla and shares in the electric car maker have lost nearly a third of their value since the deal was announced on April 25.

In response to the decline in The Value of The Shares of Tessa, Titter's shareholder lawsuit alleges Musk denigrated Twitter, violating the disdain and nondisclosure clauses of his contract with the company.

"By doing this, Musk hoped to lower Twitter's share price and then use it as a pretext to try to renegotiate the purchase," the lawsuit says.

Twitter shares closed Thursday at $39.54, 27 percent below the $54.20 per share offer price Elon Musk originally gave.

Before announcing his bid to buy Twitter, Musk revealed in early April that he had bought a 9 percent stake in the company.

The plaintiffs claim that Musk did not declare within the deadlines the purchase of these shares in a maneuver, which they say he has fully earned $156 ml from the depreciation of the kompasni shares.

"Delaying the disclosure of his shares on Twitter, Musk engaged in market manipulation and bought Titter's shares at an artificially low price," the lawsuit says.
