Albania has the lowest number of employed and the highest number of unemployed in the region. This is what the data of the Balkan Barometer say regarding the public opinion survey for 2024. When asked what is the current status of employment, about 39% of respondents in Albania answered that they are employed.

However, this figure is the lowest among the countries of the region. We are ranked first in the region for the percentage of those who have stated that they are unemployed or self-employed. From the results of the survey, we see that 20% answered that they are unemployed and 15% said that they are self-employed.

These results are also supported by the data of the "European Statistics Agency" referring to different periods. According to the figures, Albania ranks among the first countries in Europe and the region with the highest rate of unemployment, especially among young people, and the highest rate of self-employed.

But how are the data of the Balkan Barometer presented in terms of the answers of other countries in the region regarding the question on the employment status? Kosovo has the highest percentage of people who answered that they are employed and has the lowest rate of those who said that they are unemployed.

On the other hand, Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded the highest percentage of those who answered that they are housewives or do housework, with 10%. In Albania, about 6% of respondents answered that they are housewives or housewives. Meanwhile, in Serbia we find the highest percentage of those who said they are retired.
