Ukraine's central bank announced it has sold $12.4 billion worth of gold reserves since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
"We are selling (this gold) so that our importers are able to buy the necessary goods for the country," Deputy Governor Kateryna Rozhkova told national television.
She said gold was not being sold to support the local currency, but to meet the costs of war.
The past two days have severed Russian shelling even inside Ukraine's territory, not just on the eastern front.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has announced that it has nearly a 1ml force of soldiers equipped with Western armaments to undertake a counteroffensive in Russian-occupied territories.
