The motivation for the dismissal of Police Chief Ilir Proda has been made public , just a little over a year after he took charge of the State Police.

The reason for his departure is related to the failure to guarantee order and security during the recent opposition protest in Tirana.

The motivation states that during the rally " the lives of foreign citizens " living in the capital were endangered, as the Police did not take responsibility for guaranteeing security in the conditions of escalating violence.

Yesterday's protest was the second in a row where the State Police did not take responsibility for maintaining order, due to the use of Molotov cocktails and acts of violence.

After Proda's departure, Sokol Bizhga was temporarily appointed head of the institution .

The authorities have not yet provided any further details on the decision, while further developments regarding the direction of the law enforcement institution are expected in the coming days.
