The Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja presented this Thursday the recommendations of the Council of Ministers for the General Prosecutor's Office.

During his speech, Minister Manja requested that the fight against criminality turn into a common battle for the justice bodies. According to him, the fight against corruption remains a priority and that it will be one of the main challenges in the process of Albania's integration into the EU.

Also, Manja demands that the independence of prosecutors be guaranteed and emphasizes that it is unjustifiable to hold criminal cases for 3 years. 

"The fight against crime is our common fight. This is not done by looking at each other in separate trenches. The fight against the criminal is done with bridges of cooperation, having as a common denominator the fight against crime in any form and with any means to do it calmer environment. With the justice reform, we laid the solid foundations for the system to function better.

We face 2 different situations. The prosecutor must be independent in the decisions he makes. To guarantee the independence of prosecutors. The independence of the procurator guarantees his accountability in an impartial manner. Any prosecutor who violates the law should face justice.

Even the fight against corruption remains a priority and we are aware that this will be one of our main challenges in the EU integration process. The cooperation between the general prosecutor's office continued to increase the effectiveness of crimes related to corruption and organized crime. The Council of Ministers recommends an increase in the number of cases for 2023 as well. We encourage proactive investigations to be increased in order to improve the quality of investigations, especially in the field of corruption.

To increase the quality of investigations in the field of corruption by focusing on investigations of initiated cases. Even the financial investigations for criminal offenses that generate products, the addition of confiscations and alienations from other persons should have a special focus", said Manja.
