Shkodra police have arrested 58-year-old American Brendon Saporito, who stabbed his wife to death in a rented apartment on Friday morning.

At the moment he committed the crime, the 58-year-old was intoxicated, and after killing his wife, he attempted to harm himself.

The American couple had been in Shkodra for a day, where they were staying in a rented apartment.

It was the owner of the apartment who discovered the serious crime and then notified the police.

He claimed to investigators that the tourist couple had been arguing all night, to the point that he had drawn their attention several times due to the noise they were making.

Before investigators, the 58-year-old American appeared remorseful for the crime, and according to him, he committed the murder after the two were drunk and fighting.

The reason for the fight, he told investigators, was the swearing and insults that the 54-year-old woman began to make towards him. Brendon Saporito stated that the fights had been very frequent recently, without a clear reason. After committing the murder, in a serious psychological state, Saporito cut his wrists, immediately regretting what he had done.

The American couple had been in Shkodra for a day, where they were staying in a rented apartment.

The 58-year-old American has been placed in handcuffs by the Shkodra police, while he is still receiving medical attention at the hospital.

The victim's body has been brought to Tirana, where it will undergo an examination by the Institute of Forensic Medicine and then be handed over to the family.

Sources indicate that representatives of the American Embassy in Tirana were also at the scene on Friday.
