The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has arrived at the reception hall at Skanderbeg Square. She was welcomed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

In a statement to reporters, Von der Leyen spoke about the ceasefire in Ukraine that was not respected by Russian President Vladimir Putin, even though he himself requested it.

The President of the European Commission also said that the EU will impose sanctions on Russian gas, Nord Stream 1 and 2.

"President Putin offered for Russia and Ukraine to meet in Turkey. Zelensky was ready to meet, but Putin did not show up. So we are working on another package of sanctions, we will apply sanctions to Nord Stream 1 and 2. We will lower the price of oil and then we will have other sanctions in the financial sector. We want peace and we will put pressure on Putin until he does this," Von der Leyen said.
