Officer Veli Gjura passed away at the Trauma Hospital, where he was hospitalized after a serious accident.

He was hit by a car a few days ago while walking on the sidewalk. Despite the efforts of doctors, the injuries he sustained proved fatal.

The tragic event occurred the day before, at around 18:30, at the Velia intersection in the city of Peshkopia. According to official information from the police, a 27-year-old man with the initials A.Sh., who was driving a “Golf” type vehicle, is suspected of having lost control of the vehicle, gone off the road and first hit a police officer, and then stopped on top of a shop.

Police officer Veli Gjura was seriously injured at the scene and was rushed to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.

Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he could not survive the injuries he sustained. Preliminary investigations show that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He has been arrested and is in the police station, where legal procedures are being carried out.
