A woman and her two children held hostage in Umbria since last Wednesday (July 30) were released after a quick investigation and a raid carried out yesterday (August 1), on a road in the Gubbio area.
The 42-year-old woman and two minors, aged 7 and 11, who were kidnapped by her ex-husband, a 53-year-old Albanian, were released.
The suspect had entered Italy illegally using a false pretext and then confiscated their passports and stole their mobile phone. He also used physical force to prevent them from seeking help, so much so that the woman was found injured and handed over to emergency medical personnel, who later discharged her from hospital with a 10-day prognosis.
The alarm was given by the Albanian authorities, who received a report of a possible triple kidnapping, including two minors. They immediately contacted the Italian authorities, specifically the International Police Cooperation Service of the Department of Public Security of Rome and then the Carabinieri in Gubbio, where the woman's ex-husband lived.
Coordinated by the Perugia Public Prosecutor's Office, the officers launched a comprehensive search, which within an hour led to the location of the 53-year-old's car. He was driving the car, while a woman with two minors was spotted in the back seat.
Upon seeing the patrol, the three immediately called for help. The vehicle was immediately stopped by carabinieri officers, who confirmed that the 42-year-old woman and her two children were indeed inside, Italian media informs.
The three victims were terrified and extremely worried and were released immediately, while the woman explained what had happened over the past three days: their arrival from Albania in a trick, the confiscation of passports, the threats and physical violence used by her ex-husband to detain them.
The mother and children were then placed in a protected facility, while the 53-year-old was arrested in the act and transferred to the Capanne prison in Perugia.
