The tendency of Albanians to leave the country does not seem to be waning, on the contrary. New data published by Eurostat show that in the second half of 2022, the rate of emigration has accelerated.
According to INSTAT statistics, in the period January-October 2022, 10,975 citizens from Albania sought asylum in one of the countries of the European Union. The highest influx was recorded in September, with over 1,400 people, while in October the pace slowed somewhat to around 1,300.
Compared to the same period a year ago, applications for asylum by Albanian citizens in one of the EU countries have increased by 19%.
France remains the main destination with around 50% of applications, followed by Germany. Eurostat reports from 2019 only applications in European Union countries and not in Great Britain. The latter report the citizens' applications for asylum in their national statistics.

According to official data on immigration from the British Government, processed by "Monitor" in the period January-September 2022, 13,272 Albanian citizens sought asylum in Britain.
In the third quarter of this year, the number of asylum seekers from Albania almost doubled compared to the first 6 months, when about 7 thousand Albanian citizens sought asylum. Throughout the 9 months of this year, Great Britain has registered 52,525 asylum seekers from all over the world, 25% of whom were from Albania.
As a result, in total, for the 10th month of 2022, at least 24,000 Albanians have applied for asylum in the countries of the European Union and in Great Britain (data for October are missing for Great Britain).
This is only the number of those who have declared themselves to have fled and sought international protection, while the real number of people who have left is practically immeasurable, as there are many who flee with work contracts, mainly in Germany, or who do not declare that they will not return and remain undeclared./Monitor
