US military forces will build a temporary port on Gaza's coastline in the coming weeks to allow the delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid.

The news was announced by US President Joe Biden during a speech this Thursday.

"We are not waiting for the Israelis. This is a moment for American leadership," a senior US official said Thursday, reflecting growing frustration with Israel, which it accuses of deliberately blocking the flow of humanitarian aid.

The port will be built by US military engineers operating on ships off the coast of Gaza, who will not need to go ashore, US officials said. Aid shipments will be carried out from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus, which will become the main hub for the delivery of aid to Gaza.

In today's speech, Biden also announced the opening of a new land crossing in the occupied and war-torn coastal strip.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is alarming, while it is reported that 30 thousand Palestinians have died so far, most of them civilians, the rest of the population is suffering from a lack of bread, water and basic medicines.
