Scenes from Operation "Bridge"

Lawyer Kujtim Ibraj has commented on Operation "Ura", where SPAK hit organized crime. During the operation, significant amounts of cocaine and money were seized, 28 people received security measures, while a powerful family from Durrës saw several of its members in police custody.

Ibraj said that, unlike internationally known mafias, there are no structured criminal groups with a hierarchy in Albania.

"We don't have structured criminal groups in Albania. The mafia is a structured criminal group, it has a hierarchy. In Albania there is no hierarchy at all. It's all social ties and blood ties, almost more blood ties, nephews, uncles, cousins, and they are horizontal, they are not vertical.

"Here they refuse to have commanders like the Italian, Chinese, Russian mafias have, everyone is a commander for themselves. Abroad, like in Italy, they apply the hierarchy better. The bosses in Italy sit in offices with air conditioning and suits and the others work below. These people in Albania don't have that, everyone works here," Ibraj told Euronews Albania.

He also stressed that unlike the bosses of criminal organizations in Western countries, who are usually well-educated, the leaders of organized crime groups in Albania have low levels of education.

"Even the educational level of these people is vulnerable. The leaders of criminal organizations in Western countries are well-educated," said Ibraj.
