Officers of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime have conducted a search operation at Malandrinos Prison, where searches were carried out in several prisoner cells.
According to information, the police attempted to enter the cell of an Albanian prisoner, as they had information that he might be in possession of illegal items. However, the intervention encountered difficulties, as the prisoner had blocked the entrance to the cell by securing it with a piece of wood.
After the intervention of the police forces, the cell was forcibly opened and a full search was carried out. During the search, the officers found a knife with a black sheath and several keys, which were allegedly kept illegally inside the prison. The operation was extended to other cells of the penitentiary institution, where a total of 16 searches were carried out.
Authorities are continuing investigations to discover how the prohibited items entered the prison premises and whether other people were involved.
