Municipalities are not collecting local taxes, while the central government has opened the bag by increasing the budget for social assistance before the May 14 elections.
The comparison of income and expenses in the first two months of this year with those of the same period two years ago, according to the fiscal indicators of the Ministry of Finance, highlights a big gap, especially in the category of municipal collections.
According to the data, until February of this year the municipalities have collected about 2.9 billion lek, or about 24 million euros. The figure is that half of the taxes collected in the first two months of last year was almost 5.8 billion lek, or about 48 million euros.
There is a decrease both in the infrastructure impact tax, which is collected for new constructions, as well as in other local taxes.
In terms of expenses, one of the items with the biggest increase is that of economic aid. In the first two months of this year, nearly 3.4 billion ALL were spent on the social assistance scheme, or about 30 million euros.
In the first two months of last year, the figure was 2.9 billion ALL, or about 24 million euros. In total, in the first two months of last year, the expenses for the local budget were 6.7 billion ALL, while for the same period of this year, these expenses are 7.2 billion ALL.
