Two people have been arrested for the murder of businessman Edmond Hyka alias Mondi Mëhalla on Sunday evening in Elbasan. Mëhalla's former partner has been arrested on charges of murder, as well as the guard at the "Xhaxhi Oil" gas station, where the incident occurred, for actions that hinder the discovery of the truth.
Naldi Gjini, who was escorted the day before after being seen in recent days driving the car used by the perpetrators in the execution of the 43-year-old, is still being escorted and without an arrest warrant. Meanwhile, another person, suspected of being an accomplice, has been declared wanted.
Naldo Gjini, originally from Lezha, was seen in recent days driving on Kombit Street in the car used by the perpetrators in the murder. Lezha Police conducted searches at his apartment in Lezha. The vehicle used by the perpetrators was owned by the victim's entity, which rented cars.
The serious incident occurred on Sunday evening when businessman Mondi Mëhalla had just left an office at the gas station he owned, “Xhaxhi Oil,” and entered his “Range Rover” car. He was shot three times with pistol bullets, two of which hit him in the head, causing his instant death.
One of the perpetrators got out of the Audi, approached him and shot him. The two perpetrators then fled towards Librazhd, where they burned the vehicle in the village of Miraka. Inside the vehicle, which was found burned yesterday morning, a Beretta pistol used in the crime was also found.
The 43-year-old was not unknown to the police, with a history of narcotics and illegal possession of weapons. He lived in Tirana in the Paris Municipality area, while he had been expanding his business activities in Elbasan for years. He was the owner of the "Xhaxhi Oil" gas station, near which he was executed in the mafia assassination, a taxi service "El Taxi", recently established, and until a few years ago he owned a well-known bar in Elbasan, "Hollywood Lounge Bar", currently with suspended activity.
