A 43-year-old Albanian man has been arrested at the Ventimiglia border crossing in Italy , after being wanted for attempting to kill a compatriot.
The incident took place a few days ago in the parking lot of the Gran Reno shopping center in Casalecchio, near Bologna.
According to Italian authorities, the Albanian born in 1981 is suspected of seriously injuring a 29-year-old Albanian man with a knife, after a violent confrontation that erupted out of jealousy.
At the center of the conflict was an Albanian woman, who knew both men.
The injured man remains hospitalized, while doctors have given a 30-day prognosis, leaving open the possibility of further complications.
After the incident, the suspected perpetrator disappeared and there were fears that he might have crossed the border. The suspicions turned out to be correct: he had fled to France and was stopped while trying to return to Italy.
There was an arrest warrant issued against him by the Bologna Prosecutor's Office on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a cold weapon, as the knife used in the attack was undeclared.
The arrested Albanian is expected to be questioned in the coming days, while investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident continue.
